株式会社ピアソン桐原は、英語教育系出版社および洋書販売会社各社とともに、3月に東北地方を襲った地震と津波による被災者支援プロジェクト「ELT for 東北」を協同して立ち上げました。各出版社が寄贈した英語教育関連書籍をこの9月よりインターネットで販売し、代金全額を被災地の子供たちの支援金として 寄付します。

「ELT for 東北」( ELT = English Language Teaching)は、英語教育系企業として、特に子供たちへの支援活動を通じて日本の教育を支えたい、そんな願いとともに設立されました。現在までに、 1万7,400点を超える書籍（3,600万円以上相当）が、プロジェクトに賛同する出版社より寄贈されています。これらの寄贈本は下記2サイトで購入す ることができます。販売価格は、最低価格が定価の50%ですが、どちらのサイトでも、購入者は希望すればそれ以上の金額を自分で決めて入力し、自分の寄付 額を自分で決めることができる仕組みになっています。そして、このプロジェクトによって販売された書籍の代金は全額、被災地の子供たちの支援のため、 NPOの「あしなが育英会」と「Living Dreams」の2団体を通して寄付されます。

ELT for Tohoku - Charity Sale of Donated Books Started

 

In a joint effort by international ELT publishers and local distributors to support Tohoku disaster relief, two Japan-based distributors have started selling donated books online as of September 14, 2011.

 

Currently, more than 17,000 ELT related books with a total value exceeding 36 million yen have been donated by 13 publishers (see list below).

 

Donated books can now be ordered through ELTBOOKS.com and englishbooks.jp. The minimum donation is 50% of the regular retail price, although both sites encourage additional donations. 100% of donations received will be passed on to the two recipient charities, Ashinaga Foundation and Living Dreams, helping children affected by the disasters in Tohoku.
